Summary

The Community Engagement and Volunteer Programs Manager will manage a volunteer recruitment and development system to benefit Eden’s Communications Department to build affordable housing advocacy by recruiting, engaging and retaining volunteers. The position will assist staff to convert volunteers into ambassadors for Eden Housing, while also working with external partners to create service opportunities for groups of employees, individual community members, affordable housing advocates, faith-based groups, civic organizations, etc.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

Lead management of the current volunteer services program:

  • Manage the volunteer services system throughout Eden Housing that recruits, engages and retains volunteers and turns them into ambassadors for Eden Housing.
  • Assess needs and opportunities for volunteer programs at Eden affordable housing sites. Identify potential new volunteer resources and assist staff to make connections and engage volunteers appropriately.
  • Develop collateral and information to orient volunteers and help them develop an understanding of Eden Housing and affordable housing generally.
  • Design, maintain and evaluate volunteer training curriculum and procedures.
  • Manage volunteer stewardship, retention and professional development initiatives that will impact program outcomes and enhance volunteer satisfaction.
  • Create opportunities for corporate employee groups, individual community members, affordable housing advocates, civic organizations and faith-based groups to engage in projects benefiting Eden and its residents. Help leverage these relationships into fundraising opportunities.
  • Cultivate relationships with new corporate partners.
  • Maintain the volunteer database so that it can be used for fundraising, advocacy outcomes measurement and general communications.
  • Support efforts to engage Eden volunteers and residents in affordable housing advocacy efforts.
  • Develop and manage large-scale events, including volunteer appreciation events, which highlight the program and engage corporate groups and city officials.
  • Contribute to grant applications where volunteer activities are involved. Digital content management:
  • Increase Eden Housing’s online presence, build a digital sense of volunteer community, and encourage volunteers to begin or continue a volunteer partnership with Eden Housing via digital engagement.
  • Lead documentation of volunteer activities through photographs and videos. Organize documentation and make available for all Public Relations needs.
  • Maintain volunteer recognition on website, social media and newsletters. Manage a quarterly newsletter, post content regularly on social media channels, and ensure website is updated and an accurate representation of the current volunteer program.
  • Re-design existing Volunteer Program print collateral to reflect the program and Eden’s new brand identity.Measure, evaluate and increase the effectiveness of volunteer services programs:
  • Develop outcome goals for volunteer services, implement outcome measurements, and develop strategies for improving outcomes, while working closely with the Associate Director of Communications and Marketing, the Vice President of Communications, Advocacy and Fund Development, and other Communications staff.
  • Support submissions of data reports for purposes of reporting to the Board of Directors, senior staff and funding sources.

Training:

  • Coordinate with Eden’s Training Department to deliver trainings to staff that will assist them in developing and improving volunteer capacity.

  • Proven ability to direct program activities; lead by example; formulate and execute company-wide goals and objectives and assess achievement.
  • Ability to manage moderately complex projects from concept through implementation and reporting.
  • Strategic thinker. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Collaborative working style; team building approach.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to represent the company, and communicate and interface professionally and sensitively to public officials, community groups, staff, board, residents and public.
  • Ability to handle shifting and multiple priorities in a fast paced, growth environment.
  • Must be able and willing to travel to all company locations.
  • Experience working with diverse groups, i.e., staff, residents, outside contacts.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS  

Must have reliable automobile transportation, a valid California Driver's License and vehicle insurance.

 

LANGUAGE, MATH & REASONING SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend written instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Physical demands include writing/typing, use of computer and paper files, answering phones, attending meetings.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
  • 5 years or more experience in volunteer services programming in nonprofit, social services, recreation activities, health services or related field.
  • Experience managing databases and creating reports.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining partnerships with external groups.
  • Content management and reporting experience preferred.
  • Experience with external communications activities preferred.
