Clifford Beers Housing (CBH) develops permanent supportive housing (“PSH”) for the most vulnerable. We are dedicated to building thoughtfully designed, affordable and integrated communities to improve the lives of individuals and families who have experienced mental illness and homelessness.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a dynamic and ambitious Advancement Manager to drive our Permanent Supportive Housing initiative. By innovating and advancing new capital structures and partnerships, you will lead new ways in production that are time and cost-efficient in comparison to traditional LIHTC models. You will integrate market units to PSH, partner with for-profit developers, promote PSH in R-1 neighborhoods and collaborate with faith-based organizations who own surplus land.

 

As our Advancement Manager you will be a key member of the leadership team and report directly to the Executive Director. You will influence all aspects of project development including multiple feasibility scenarios, underwriting, research, funding applications, negotiation, closing, and building PSH developments.

The Advancement Manger will develop strategic relationships to operate the building effectively involving property management, supportive service provision, etc. CBH hopes these creative projects will serve as a model to craft new ways to end homelessness in Los Angeles.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to make reasoned decisions with limited information
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities, work, and information as needed
  • Ability to perform under pressure with interruptions and to meet deadlines
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to synthesize and understand information from a variety of sources and documents
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible work schedule that can accommodate demanding project deadlines
  • Familiarity with the MS Office Suite, particularly MS Excel, Word, and Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in representing CBH to colleagues, constituents, funders, and public officials
  • Passion and support for CBH’s mission

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Create new innovative funding opportunities
  • Develop funding applications for public and private financing consistent with funding regulations and within funding deadlines
  • Close acquisition/predevelopment, construction, and permanent phase loan deals.
  • Manage project proformas and other financial spreadsheets
  • Handle new site acquisitions, entitlements, project funding, and construction, including, review of studies, reports, and loan documents; distributing documents and information to parties as needed
  • Communicate with financing partners, consultants, and public agency staff
  • Actively participate in project problem-solving and discussions regarding project strategies
  • Maintain project information in an accurate and organized manner
  • Find, apply for, and report on grants suitable for the development of a department focused on developing permanent supportive housing without the use of LIHTC

 

EDUCATION

  • A Bachelor’s degree and preferably a Master’s degree in business, finance, political science, public administration or urban planning.
  • 2-5 years’ work experience in a related field required. Relevant work experience may be substituted in lieu of a master’s degree.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

  • Proof of ability to work in the United States.
  • Must always have and maintain a valid California driver’s license and auto insurance and have the availability of an insured vehicle to travel within the Company’s service area.
